I'd like to give this SUP thing a try, I can use my mates 10' longboard, and it seems a pretty thick board, is it worth buying a paddle?
Will this thing float and SUP well?

Mate, you can try it but I think you will find that as a beginner, that longboard will be very unstable.  It is amazing the difference between say a 9' SUP and an 11' SUP that are the same brand.  You'd think both would be pretty stable in the water but that's not the case.  Don't you know someone that has an SUP you can borrow with a paddle  Huh  Or go rent one for an hour or two.

Agreed; a long board will wobble you all over the place, then you'll probably hate it and give it up before you've had a taste of how good it really is.  Find a club locally to you; should not be that difficult as it is growing so fast (with good reason).  Most supers are very friendly and will lend you a board for a quick try  Smiley
