This guy's an asshole; IMO.  No respect whatsoever for the lineup - just barges in without giving a thought to anyone else.  I've surfed in Hawaii - you do that there, they'll have you for it.   Angry

Being completely new, I can only give an opinion based on 'politeness' rather than the rules of the line-up, with which I am not yet familiar.  It looks very 'impolite' to me (and not very stylish either when you compare his riding to some videos I've seen).

Why applaud?

I don't even think his riding was that impressive for a "pro".
To rock up at a new place on the swell of the year day.....with a crew....and a jetski.... and then to be a wave hog is.....rude.

And so yes he should have had his ass kicked by the locals, (which is probably why Garreth  came with a crew in the first place).

Also inclined to go with the bad manners - but given that Hurricane Bill served up some pretty decent surf after a long 'flat' summer, I think I'd have got over excited too if I were him  Undecided

Yes but he doesn't live there.
he is a pro from hawaii that either travels to places like Tahiti or wherever the sponsor takes him.

To be rockin' up with a crew at a spot where you are a guests and to be doing what he did is not cool imo.

Sandie, You're a newbie as you say and let me tell you this guy has style - he's a great rider.  He also has a reputation for publicity seeking and I am in the 'kick his ass' line.  It's just not cool to SUP through regular surfers on their day of the year.
